VITA IS GO! Heres the vita’d up Game on Oxford Street last week on launch day.  Inside there was a brisk trade, a longish queue (this was lunchtime) and pretty much everyone in the queue was buying a vita ( I pre-ordered, HMV down the road had better deals, Amazon even better!).
One issue - no 16gb cards in stock at HMV, Game, or Currys. So i ordered on on my phone from amazon. Over the next couple of weeks I’ll be dropping some updates on life with vita.

SmartPen! everything’s getting smart these days, yesterday it was the magazine today the humble ballpoint. Here is the Stabilo, SmartBall pen, with iPad/capacitive screen friendly stylus on one end £7.99 in rymans. Oddly the packaging has a QR code, well all smartpen’s need a QR code don’t they, it leads to a website with a youTube video on it, so not THAT smart! :)Annoyingly the SmartGraph Pencil version is minus the capacitive stylus end, so probably just an AverageGraph.
UPDATE: Now I’ve used it, it’s, well, a bit rubbish, you have to hold it in the right way to get it to work, which isn’t at all how i want to hold it. In addition it needs quite a lot of pressure to work. It may be ok for some people - but I find it next to useless.
UPDATE 2: I borrowed an iPad and it works just fine on that, no excessive pressure. pretty much as you would expect it to work, as long as you ‘hold it right’.  Then I tried it on my new HTC one X and it works perfectly on that too. So basically the two samsung devices I had (Nexus S/Galaxy Tab 10.1) and my iPhone 3GS were not too responsive. So try before you buy.

I spotted this in WH Smiths today, a thick magazine all about (symbian) nokia smartphones, a magazine covering a dead platform.  But one interesting thing is it contains an NFC tag, my nexus S wasn’t powered up so I couldn’t test what it did, but i presume its nothing more than a weblink.
It’s published by a company called magbook, who seem to do all those book/magazine/guides.

Collaborations are good.  I love collaborations, mash ups and the unexpected lovelyness they create. From Ed Sherran working with Grime Artists to Channel 4’s blending of shows - it’s always fun and exciting to mix things up.
Fred Perry have done a number of collaboration with the likes of liberty and Raf SImmons - very much hitting the high end of fashion, rather than core audience. This combination of Dr Martens and Brutus Trim fit is bang on their heritage subculture, yet is accessible to all (and only £55).
My previous favourite Dr Marten Collaboration was when they were sponsors for West Ham, I got these boots from the stadium store:

Order here - or get in Dr Marten’s stores next week:

Skanking!

I thought I would compare the three EPG/ Sky+ remote record apps from sky, as they are an essential second screen, so in order of lovelyness…

1 Android Tablet - theres an extra hour on view and the Highlights bar moves out of view as you scroll down.

2. iPad, basically the same as the android version, but annoyingly the highlights bar is permanently taking up 1/3 of the space available - so its that little bit annoying and less useful when browsing the evenings viewing options. close but pipped by the droid.

3. Web, Wow this version is really bad, it’s hidden away below the fold, then theres an extra splash page that serves no purpose other than to annoy, then the same permanent bar as the iPad reduced the amount of channels to a poor 5.  Almost 1/2 the screen is taken up with things you dont want or need, there’s a massive blue header that just says SKY, why do websites not learn to use the REAL space available, i suspect it was signed off on 27 inch monitors and A3 printouts.

Has someone at sky done the comparison I just did one simple change to the iPad/Web would be instantly obvious.

Unbearable blandness of unofficial olympic advertising.  Meanwhile Nike and Lucozade have fallen into the “can’t be bothered” camp too with there “stick an athelete on it” approach to trying to shave off some london 2012 glory.
If you can’t stand out - don’t waste your time.
Clearly the agencies involved had something better to do that afternoon. Plus the limitations of attempting to do a london 2012 advert when you can’t mention anything to do with the olympics.
3/10 could do better.

Lazy minds, think alike. BMW’s olympic campaign is one of the least inspiring pieces of advertising ever, but when it came to the outdoor they seem to have reached new lows of blandness.
What you see about isn’t two BMW adverts, Its a BMW and a VW ad. They are bascially identical.  Come on VW/BMW shake a leg, make your agencies earn their money.
