Flickr to ban macro flower photos.
Flickr is currently beta testing some new software to block all macro photos of flowers. ‘We blame the camera manufacturers for making it so easy for people to take endless macro shots, it’s like totally skewing the interestingness value of flickr photo-streams, dude.’ said a flickr spokesperson.
The new software uses a combination of exif data and shape recognition to block all macro flower shots. Users will be allowed a maximum of 3 macro flower shots per stream. A pro-macro paid account is allowed upto 100, but these will be excluded from all searches by default.
It is expected the system can be rolled out for other oversaturated subject areas.
